Moore-Thomas family papers, 1820-1958 (bulk 1872-1933).

This collection includes the papers of Samuel B. Moore and those of his wife and her family. The letters from Samuel to Ruth trace their relationship from 1894 to 1919. The only letters that remain from Ruth to Samuel are from 1917. Most of Samuel's other correspondence relates to his medical practice. Many are form letters from publishers and laboratories soliciting his business. There are numerous letters from Mary Joe, possibly a cousin, in Piscataway, Maryland, to Ruth's sister Ruby. Most of daughter Inez's material relates to dances and other social functions, except for two scrapbooks on conservation. She was active in the Potomac Valley Conservation and Recreation Council, and these scrapbooks relate to the membership and activities of that organization as well as to regional conservation issues, preservation of the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal, Rock Creek Park, and parks and wildlife in general. Only a few items of Inez's sister, Margaret, remain. The collection also contains oversize materials related to the Civil War, most likely the property of Henry W. Thomas.
